Observations on General Principles of Warfare in the Cyber Age
In the continuing notebook spirit of this blog, rather than wait to develop these ideas I have, I’m just going to shit them out now into your email box and refine them as I go. Feedback as always is welcome.
Warfare today has 2 perspectives to it, one of the global hegemon, and one for everyone else. I aim to establish principles of warfare that apply in general to both of those sides outside of the rules based global order ecosystem that in practice seeks to impose itself on our understanding of war.
Because of the networking of the media and minds of the world through the internet infrastructure, there exists a hyperreality in which data and ideas can take on a degree of importance equal to or sometimes greater than the physical reality it represents.
The algorithmic linking of things, people, actions, and intelligence makes us faster, more amplified, more capable, less agile, and more narrow minded in warfare and presents new vulnerabilities.
Data cannot become information without human discernment. Context can only come from the light of a human mind.
There is an emerging principal of incommensurability with systems becoming synonymous with survivability facing systems that is increasing with the further cyberization of weapons.
There is a physical weaponization to hyperreal data in cyberized weapons.
A supremacy of biology over this system is more pronounced but less obvious in this new state of things. A force that emphasizes human health, physical and mental, will retain the vitality necessary to exploit the cyberized vulnerability of the modern force.
